This extreme dizzy sensation is famously associated with a phobic fear of heights. While an attack of vertigo can indeed be triggered by the fear of falling from a high place, vertigo itself is usually the symptom of one of a number of disorders affecting the inner ear. An attack of vertigo usually involves the sensation of the head spinning around and around, and a loss of balance: the patient may suddenly fall right over. Sweating, nausea and vomiting may also occur.

The most common condition behind attacks of vertigo is Meniere’s disease, a degenerative condition of the middle ear usually affecting people for the first time in their fifties. Apart from the dizzy spells and periodic loss of balance, a person with Meniere’s disease (sometimes known as Meniere’s syndrome) may experience ongoing ringing in the ears (called tinnitus), and gradual hearing impairment. The cause of Meniere’s disease is little understood but believed by some medical practitioners to be caused by congestion of the lymphatic system. While medications such as Dramamine help manage the vertigo, they will not cure the disease and will not prevent the loss of hearing.

Simple motion sickness can lead to vertigo as can bacterial infections of the inner ear and viral infection such as influenza. The sensations may continue even after the patient appears to have recovered from the more acute symptoms of the ‘flu. See separate entries in this book for the treatment of these conditions.

Recurrent attacks of vertigo may also be caused by the pressure of a tumour or non-cancerous growth on the auditory or acoustic nerve. High blood pressure or hardening of the arteries may also be responsible and strokes can bring on vertigo in the elderly. If attacks of vertigo are unexplained and recurrent, you should seek medical advice. Some health practitioners recommend acupuncture with moxibustion for the management of dizziness and vertigo.

The word “dizzy” in fact can also describe the various feelings.

Vertigo and Loss of Balance

Vertigo is a feeling as if you or around you are spinning. You can feel the room was spinning, or you feel round took place in the head or your own body. Vertigo is usually associated with inner ear problems. Inner ear has a very sensitive organ in the sense motion. Viral diseases, physical trauma, or other disturbances can cause the device to send false messages to the brain.

Loss of balance is a feeling where you feel the need to hold on to something to maintain your balance. Losing a great balance makes it difficult to stand without falling.

The head felt light and unconscious

Head felt light include feeling dizzy, floating, or nearly fainted. Unconscious is a sudden loss of consciousness and in a short time. Unconscious occurs when the brain does not carries enough blood and oxygen. Although frightening, unconscious is no reason to worry. Once you are lying on his back, blood will flow to the brain and you will regain consciousness within approximately one minute. Unconscious can be caused by medical problems such as heart disease, severe coughing attacks and circulation disorders. In other cases, unconscious can be related to some of the following:

• Standing too soon.
• As a result of high blood pressure medication and heart rate are uncertain.
• Excessive sweating so much loss of sodium and dehydration.
• Unusual fatigue
• Hearing the sad news, surprising or unusual stress like the sight of blood for example.

The fall in blood pressure quickly called postural hypotension, occurs when you stand up quickly from a seated position or bending. Any person has experiencing these reactions in a mild degree. You felt his head become light or like going to faint, and it usually runs in seconds. If the situation is leading to collapse or lose consciousness, hu36gndbey then it becomes more serious. The situation often occurs after a person a warm bath or in people who are on medication to control blood pressure.
